A mind stimulating room for a baby

by Heather
(usa)

People seem to pick themes when they design their baby rooms and many go with cartoon characters, Noah’s Arc, Winnie the Pooh and the like. I wanted something different and unique that would provide a happy bright area and provide many things to look at.

It is said that babies have a hard time seeing anything except black and white initially so the mobile over the bed was done in black and white animals along with a baby bumper that was black and white with the same animals on it. These could be easily changed out after a few months when the baby was able to see more color.

I did not want to do the same thing with the walls though as I did not want to have to paint every few months or have the harsh smell of new paint in the baby’s room. I wanted something fun.

What I did was choose several different colors in themes. On one wall I painted several overlapping and different sized circles in pastel colors and of course the colors that combined, the overlapping area was painted with the “correct” pastel when the two colors were combined.

On another wall I kept with the same theme, but did that wall in bright circles of varying sizes with the same idea on the overlap.

My baby’s godmother is very artistic so I sought her assistance with two of the other walls. One was random characters all over the wall and included the baby Disney characters, Pooh and friends, etc. On the final wall was the alphabet in small case, uppercase and numbers.

The door was done in all information about the baby and this had to be done after the baby was born. His name, birthday, weight, etc. were put up.

The point is that no matter where the baby looked in the room and even as he started to get older, there was something to look at to stimulate his brain and hopefully educate him without even realizing it such as with the colors and mixing two together makes another color.
