This Alphabet Safari Nursery was designed with a need for a neutral theme because of not finding out what gender baby we were having. Inspired by the giant stuffed giraffe from "Melissa and Doug" we decided to go with animals and the alphabet.
The walls are painted with a blue color made by Behr called Illusion. The trim is a white also by Behr in semigloss available at Home Depot. The Alphabet Characters Animals are made with Martin Senour Paints. The colors used are; Been Green, Americas Cup, and Prussian Blue.
We had a custom alphabet with safari animals painted along the knee wall under the roofline. It is the only unbroken wall in the nursery, and needed something done with it to fill the space and make it cozy. The decorative painting was done free hand by Alyssa Bishop of Brunswick Maine.
The crib is a custom crib that is a family heirloom!
The bedding and curtains were all custom designed and created by the baby's mother and maternal grandmother. The fabric was largely purchased at local quilt shops in the Bangor area and Joann's Fabrics. Some additional bedding for the day bed was purchased from Target.
The Changing table was hand made by the baby's maternal Grandfather, the shelving was refurbished by the baby's father - we used that for the baby's library. The dresser and mirror were reused family furniture. The baskets for organizing were purchased from Target and several of the throws and receiving blankets in the baskets and throughout the room were made by family members.
The project took most of the pregnancy. The room was formerly a guest bedroom/office. It was all fun - the best part was painting the alphabet by the Mom and her best Friend.
What we love most about the room is that it is hers and she is here to enjoy it's peaceful and playful space. Lilah Grey Flaherty came to us in a special way and she is here to stay!
