Aquatic Dream Nursery!

by Maria
(USA)

I was trying to think of cool ways to decorate my daughter's nursery when I had a great idea! Instead of just painting the walls one solid color, I got 3 varying shades of blue paint (light, medium, and dark) and painted the walls in a gradated fashion to make it look like an actual sea!

The light blue paint went at the top, the medium in the middle, and the darker at the bottom.

To accomplish this, paint the lightest color first about 1/3 of the way down. Paint the middle portion using the medium paint next, and then paint the darkest color at the bottom 1/3 of the wall. Do this for the entire room. You do not need to worry about being exact in where you change colors.

Then comes the fun part! You get to mix the colors together. First, you need to handle blending the light portion of the wall and the medium portion. What I did was get a pan and pour light paint on one end, and the medium paint at the other end. It is OK if they touch in the pan. Using a paint brush, dip the brush in a bit of each color and then fan the brush back and forth, feathering it at the point that the light and medium paint meet on the wall. This will give you a blended effect.

The same must then be done to blend the point where the medium and dark paint meet.

This is a great project to do with the daddy or you can even make a 'baby room painting party' of it! The end result is stunning!

Use a semi gloss paint and blend colors until you like the way it looks!

Accessorize the room after it dries with all kinds of aquatic toys, blankets, etc! Your room will be one of a kind!
