My cars and trucks nursery idea was inspired my husband. He loves all things cars, trucks, planes etc. so it seemed only natural to have a car type theme for our son’s room. Our son is adopted so I knew I needed a very special room for a very special little boy!
Since we adopted our son and had less than 24 hours notice that we would be bringing him home, we didn't have the luxury of much time. Even though he was in a bassinet in our room for quite a few months, I was eager to have his own space ready for changing him, reading to him and familiarizing him with our home.
Other than the bookcase (which I already had) we purchased all of the furniture in one weekend.
The Crib was from Babies R Us, the bookshelf from Target, the dresser and wall piece above the toy box and the wardrobe were from IKEA. I wasn't particular about brand and didn't want to limit myself to buying all of it at the same place. My hubby made the toy box. I love the bead board that he put around it. It just finished it off so nicely. My favorite feature however is the gap Brad left around the edge so that Gabe can't get his fingers stuck when it closes. I would never have thought of that. My hubby is the best!
I stored most things in baskets on shelves or just on shelves themselves. Anything else was in a drawer in the dresser or in the wardrobe.
The art on either side of his crib was purchased online. I purchased the name letters from a local craft store (Ben Franklin) and painted them navy blue myself. The cars, trucks, planes etc. that surround his name were also purchased at Ben Franklin. All of the frames were purchased online at framesbymail.com.
My automobile themed bedding was a gift and was from Target.
It didn't take very long to finish. It was so much fun to put together and I just thoroughly enjoyed the whole process of watching the nursery take shape.
