Hand Knit Baby Blanket with the Knifty Knitter

by Debra
(usa)

I really love knitting even though I don't actually know how to knit. I use the Knifty Knitter line of craft looms and my projects knit themselves!

My absolute favorite is to knit soft blankets for my nieces while I’m watching television. My cats love these blankets too.

I choose the softest cotton yarns I can find in cream or pastel colors. There are many types of yarns, such as wool or artificial fibers, but for babies I like to use all natural cotton.

The Knifty Knitter works by looping the yarn around the pegs twice, and then using a hook to pull the lower loop over the upper loop and off of the peg. Add a new loop and repeat until the project is completed. Each round of looping and hooking extends the project. It really takes very little time at all!

I typically do the looping during the TV show because I don’t have to watch my hands for that part, and I hook during the commercials when I can pay attention and make sure that I am only moving the right strands.

With the Knifty Knitter, I am able to use multiple threads and vary the colors. I can easily change out the yarns that I use so that I have stripes of alternating colors. Another variation is to combine a solid skein with a varicolored skein. The various colors flow throughout the project while the solid yarn binds it together for a cohesive look.

I truly enjoy this craft because it turns even TV time into productive time, and every new mother loves a handmade baby blanket. The giving is as much a joy as the making.
