Handmade Nursery Lamp

I wanted to make a nursery lamp that matched the crib set I had picked out. Naturally they did not sell a matching lamp, so I had to make one. It was not as difficult as I thought it would be, it was actually kind of fun.

This can be done in a few different ways. You can purchase lamp kits which come with all the workings of a lamp and you put it together, but I was looking to save a few bucks so I used an existing lamp I already had and refinished it.

First thing I did was strip the lamp down to just the lampshade, pole, and base. I purchased a sheet that went with the crib set so it would match exactly.

I took the old lampshade and slowly rolled it over the ironed fabric carefully drawing a line about 3/4 of an inch away from the sides. After I cut it out I started attaching it. I bought craft spray glue for fabric and it worked great. Just spray a small amount at a time while slowly rolling the shade along the fabric. You need to get out any wrinkles you make immediately because this stuff dries fast.

Next you glue the excess up inside the lamp so you can't see the cut edges. I covered the edges in corresponding ribbon colors for a cute look.

After the lampshade was done the rest was really easy. I painted the base and all the wood pieces the colors I wanted to match the set.

I purchased a small money bank that went with the set to use as the decoration on the base. I figured when we were done using it as a nursery lamp we could remove the bank and she could use it for her money. I glued the bank onto the base and let everything dry. When I put it together I put it in the nursery next to the couch for late night feedings.

It looks adorable and I love the way it came out.
