Our nursery was inspired by my love of horses and vintage things and my husband's love of trees and the outdoors. We combined the ideas and made a unisex nursery that can then turn into a fun kids room.
What brand and color of paint did you use? Pale daffodil yellow is the base with different shades of brown and green for the trees and horses.
If you added stripes, polka dots or other paint effects, tell us how you did it. My husband freehand painted the tree, cutting sponges himself to sponge paint the leaves. He made the stencil himself also for the rocking horse border.
What brand of crib did you buy? Where from? The crib is handmade by my husband. As a hobby he builds furniture. The crib is made from maple, oak, and black walnut and dovetailed together with a natural wood finish.
What brand of furniture did you choose? Where did you buy it? The dresser was my dresser from when I was a baby 29 years ago. The changing table was a cedar hope chest we were given when we got married and the rocking chair was a chair my mother had that she wasn't using.
Tell us about your window treatments, lighting, rugs, wall decor
and accessories. Where did you buy them - were any handmade? The blanket above the crib was handmade for us by a friend.
Most accessories such as the rocking horses were my husband and mine from our childhoods. The mobiles were all from our childhoods also.
A lot of what we are using are hand-me-downs from friends and relatives also, such as the swing and the boppy pillow. The stuffed animals are all ours from our childhoods also.
How did you store all your baby goodies? In baskets, on shelves? Mostly in the closet on shelves or in a hanging closet organizer.
How long did it take you? Was it easy, fun, difficult? What was your favorite part? It took almost the whole pregnancy considering my husband started building the crib when we found out we were pregnant. The crib took several months to build and from there we painted and decorated until we were about 36 weeks!
Did you do the entire nursery on your own or did someone help you? Who? What did they do? Just my husband and I with a little help from his father.
What do you love most about your little one's finished room? That it is unique us and everything is either something made with our own hands or something passed down from our childhoods. Also that it is a fun room to be in.
