Our Ethiopian Princess Nursery Idea

Our Ethiopian Princess Nursery Idea

We've been preparing for the arrival of our daughter, Eden from Ethiopia and are so happy that we poured our heart into her nursery idea.

I wanted her nursery to be soft and warming yet have an African flair to it without being all cutesy and baby like so that we wouldn't have to change her room in a year or two.

I first fell in love with a bedding set from the website Etsy. I had the lady custom make it with the colors I wanted....avocado green, soft pink and chocolate brown.

We painted 3 walls avocado green and 1 wall tofino sunset, Benjamin Moore paint colors.

We bought a the white Storkcraft Monique crib, the dresser is from Ikea and I painted an antique end table to match. The dresser has crystal knobs on it so I found some to put on the end table.

To tie in the oak trim, we had a glider/rocker already in use and just had the cushions recovered in chocolate brown. The curtains were handmade by Eden's grandma.

The biggest impact of the room is the African Acacia Tree that a friend and I painted over Eden's crib. We found a photograph on the internet of an acacia tree and then blew it up and put it on an overhead and sketched out the outline.

We knew we wanted it all in chocolate brown to tie in with all the other elements of the room. After many hours of hard work, the tree was finished!

To tie everything together, 2 more Etsy finds! I had a lady create her name decal and ordered a decal with the outline of Africa and a heart in Ethiopia to put on her walls.

I hope you enjoy Our Ethiopian Princess nursery as much as we do! We've been waiting for our daughter for so many years and poured our heart and soul and all of our love into her room, and she'll always be sleeping under her acacia tree with a little piece of Africa in her room.

Your nursery is so adorable. We are also adopting a little girl from Ethiopia. I love your bedding and the acacia tree. Do you happen to remember the websites that you found the bedding and tree on? Thanks so much for the inspiring ideas!

I absolutely LOVE the fact that you tied in Eden's African roots/heritage into her nursery room. I know she will absolutely love the room and be thankful that she has such loving parents and family that put their heart into decorating such a wonderful room for such a little princess as herself.

Amazing!

Rhonda - you did an amazing job! I was going to comment on your blog but saw this link as well so will leave my 2 cents here. Looking at the nursery you've created, I can already feel how much you love little Eden. She is truly going to be your princess. I know you will enjoy every minute of her.

Well done, Rhonda. This is such a gorgeous nursery. I love the bird you added to the tree.

All that's missing...is Eden!

I had to comment on here because I love Eden's room and I think it's so neat that you posted it on here! I can't wait to see her (and those gorgeous curls) sleeping in her restful room.

And that heart in Ethiopia wall decal is still so calling me...

Hey Rhonda!

It looks great. I'll bet Eden will love it and she is going to always hold her roots dear to her. Such a good mommy! And creative, too!
Now you just need to get her in that little chair for a cuddle and rock, and into the crib with a kiss goodnight!

It's gorgeous!

I am South African and it's true what they say: "Once Africa is in your blood, it's there to stay!"

I'm sure your Ethiopian Princess will love looking up at her acacia tree from her crib. It brought tears to my eyes!

May your gift from Africa bring you the richest of blessings!
